Port Susan Grown
An easier way to buy local
Welcome to the pride of North 40: our 'Port Susan Grown'TM brand. Wherever you see this label, you can be sure that your food is local, high quality, and ethically sourced. That's because the growers and artisans who use the label have to meet our strict standards.
The Port Susan Pledge:
50 miles
All products must be sourced within a 50 mile radius of our location (aka, North Puget Sound). Ideally, products never travel more than 50 miles, period.
50 acres
Port Susan Grown products are sourced exclusively from small family farms (by USDA standards), which means they are not more than 50 acres in size.
50 percent
Growers who participate in the Port Susan Grown program are guaranteed to retain at least 50% of the food production dollar (See 'Research' for details).
Quality Standards:
In addition to the 50/50/50 rule, growers who use our label must meet stringent criteria for ethical and material quality. Growers demonstrate sustainable farming techniques, meet or exceed federal guidelines for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and must plan to obtain at least one certification (e.g. Non-GMO, Organic, Salmon-Safe) during their membership term.
