Where can I buy North 40 products?

We do not sell products under the North 40 name.  However, we have a line of goods marketed under the "Port Susan Grown" brand, and develop many products for local farmers that are sold for retail.  All of our products can be found at salt & thistle, and we are working on contracts with online retailers.  You can locate our retail partners on our "merchants" page.

I heard I can pick which charities you support.   Is this true?

We support non-profits in a number of ways.  One of those ways is through an online platform called Causetown.  Through this program, we can assign a certain percentage of our retail profits to charity.  By purchasing our products in-house, you can determine where your portion of those profits go.  (If you purchase our products at other stores, this rule does not apply).  We keep a list of suggested non-profits available, based on their proximity to North 40 and their applicability to our social purpose.  If you represent a local NGO that matches our values (and have 501(c)3 status), we will gladly add you to the list.

What is a food hub?

Food Hubs are an emerging solution to some of the complicated issues facing the agricultural industry.  In a nutshell, hubs make it easier for small farms to: a) make a profit from farming, and b) reach commercial markets.  Hubs run on a spectrum of different models, but all hubs aggregate, store, process, distribute, and/or market for local growers (usually several of these activities at once).  North 40 is a processing hub which means we focus on processing, marketing and distribution.  We are unique among food hubs because we provide built-in retail opportunities for our farmers.  We hope that the addition of North 40 to our region will boost the health, wealth and pride of our entire local food system.  We are opening to partnering with other hubs and innovative companies that share our values.
